A one time DA secretary once said when asked about the rising cost of rice: " Let us eat corn."
He missed the point. Rice is culturally linked to the Filipinos. It's rice or nothing. But again, pandesal can be a subsitute for breakfast despite its shrinking size. Especially if there's kesong puti around for the palaman. Kesong puti is made from unskimmed carabao's milk and is the Filipino equivalent of the mozzarella. It traces its roots in the Tagalog provinces of Bulacan and Laguna, and the Visayan provinces of Cebu and Samar. This one's made by the Philippine Carabao Center in Nueva Ecija.
Going back to that DA secretary, there was a queen in France who said "Let them eat cake" when her people was rioting because there's no bread. She eventually lost her head.
