Description
English: Painting showing the Ostend Company ship the Impératrice Élisabeth (flying the Austrian imperial flag) being attacked by Barbary Coast corsairs in 1724 (the legend under the painting says 1727). The Algier-based pirates attacked and captured the Impératrice Élisabeth in the Atlantic on its return trip from Moka (Yemen). Anonymous painting from c.1730-1740.
