Description
English: Elie Cohen at his Damascus residence in 1963. Elie Cohen, the Israeli spy known in Syria at the time by the alias Kamel Amin Thabit, was beleived to be an expatriate businessman living in South America. He befriended leading Syrian Baathist politicians, including President Amin al-Hafez, but was eventually arrested, trialed, and executed in Marjeh Square in May 1965. The photo is taken opposite the Indian Embassy in Damascus.

This work was created in Syria and is now in the public domain there because its term of copyright has expired pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 12/2001, Syria's first ever copyright law (details). In order to be hosted on Commons, all works must be in the public domain in the United States as well as in their source country.   • Article 25 - "Photographic, fine arts or plastic arts shall be enforceable for ten years as of the date of producing such work."
