The Challenger I replaced the Chieftain in UK service and went on to see action in the Gulf War, as well as in Bosnia and Kosovo. By 2001 it was replaced in service by the Challenger 2. On retiring from the British Army, some 392 Challenger Is were sold to Jordan, where they remain in use.
This example is one of the 28 to remain in the UK and its restoration to running condition was assisted by Horstman Defence Systems Ltd, a local defence engineering company.
Appropriately for a Gulf War machine, it is seen in the Kuwait Arena during TankFest 2019.
