Since 1955, after a rough start (severely damaging a dock on her maiden voyage if memory serves) she provided convenient passenger service between downtown Vancouver and Nanaimo until the early 1980's. My trips were usually by bike and included my dog for which reason I often stayed below on the vehicle deck (mostly rail cars) where my dog and I enjoyed the view of her wake on the approximately 2-hour crossing. Once the cook must have noticed us as he sent down a shoe box full of turkey out of the soup for my dog. We last rode this vessel in 1985 between Powell River and Comox when she was in the BC Ferries fleet. I had though that she might still be in service there but according to recent report has changed hands several times and might still be sailing in China. She didn't have quite the classic lines as, for example, her much earlier sisters Princess Elaine and Princess Joan but wasn't a bad looking ship. Fondly remembered by many here, I'm sure.
