Caption: "Manufactured in the former Soviet Union the BMP1 was first observed in 1967. It was the worlds first Infantry combat vehicle armed with a cannon and anti-tank guided missiles. Its main gun is a smooth bore 73mm with a maximum range of 1300 meters. It is operated with a crew of three (commander, gunner and driver) and carries eight infantrymen in the rear of the vehicle. Notice the 4 firing ports on each side of the hull. These allow the soldiers inside to engage targets from inside the vehicle. This BMP 1 was captured by the 24th Infantry Division during the Gulf War.
This armored personnel carrier captured during combat operations in the Euphrates River Valley of Iraq (Operation Desert Storm) was presented to the United States Infantry Center by the soldiers of the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), 14 June 1991."
