Great Western trains from Birmingham via Stratford-on-Avon and Cheltenham also ran over this Midland route under running-powers between Standish Junction and Yate South Junction. On the left the Severn & Wye (Great Western & Midland Joint) line from Lydney via the Severn Bridge and Sharpness joined here (seen on the left); there was also a loop from the south onto this branch, used when trains were diverted on Sundays over the Severn Bridge when the Severn Tunnel underwent repairs. The Down train is a Gloucester - Bristol Temple Meads stopping train, headed by Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45280.
