Notes Prince Charles Louis (1617 - 1680), later Duke of Bavaria, was the eldest surviving son of Frederick V, Elector Palatine and Elizabeth Stuart, the 'Winter Queen', sister of Charles I. He can be identified as Prince Charles Louis because he was the only one of the three brothers who was entitled to wear the Garter ribbon at this date. Its pendant is the portrait of his brother 'Prince Rupert, Count Palatine' also in the Collection .
