FUEL CELLS COMBINE HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY AND WATER, A MUCH CLEANER SYSTEM COMPARED TO COMBUSTION ENGINES. COMMERCIAL USE OF FUEL CELLS WILL BE ONE OF THE NATION'S FIRST STEPS TOWARD A HYDROGEN ECONOMY. DOE'S FREEDOMCAR PROGRAM CALLS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF HYDROGEN FUEL CELL POWERED CARS. FUEL CELLS MAY ALSO POWER LAP TOP COMPUTERS, CELL PHONES AS WELL AS HOME ELECTRICAL AND HEATING SYSTEMS.
