File:1836 39 Pont Neuf - Daguerre and Fordos.jpg

Original file (1,310 × 946 pixels, file size: 309 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description
English: Pont Neuf photographed between 1836 and 1839 by Louis Daguerre and Mathurin Joseph Fordos. According to the caption on the back, written in 1879, this is the first daguerreotype made in the open air. The original is at the Musée des Arts et Métiers.

As with most daguerreotypes, the image is mirrored. Two people can be seen lying in the shadow of the statue. If it was taken in 1836, it would be the earliest photograph of a human being and the earliest preserved daguerreotype, predating Boulevard du Temple (1837/38) and Still life with plaster casts (1837).
