The Dreamer is a 2023 American stand-up comedy special written and performed by Dave Chappelle for Netflix.[1][2] It was directed by Stan Lathan and recorded at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. in 2023.
The special centres around the importance of inspiration and having a dream. Chappelle draws material from the 1990s when he struggled after The Chappelle's Show was no longer running. Chappelle again makes fun of transgender issues, which have previously drawn criticism from the LGBTQ community. He also discusses the 'slap heard around the world,' when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.[3]
The special received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special and was nominated for Directing for a Variety Special.[4][5]
Music
editThe opening title features the song Daydreaming by Radiohead.
