Not a polluted category

Please do not add {{polluted category}} to this category.

I have twice removed {{polluted category}} from this page, so I guess I need to explain myself better than I can in an edit summary. The {{polluted category}} template marks categories that are intended to contain a mix of both user pages and mainspace articles. Categories marked in this manner are excluded from Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories. This report is useful for finding user pages that incorrectly use a mainspace category, or articles that incorrectly use a user page category.

AFC submissions should only be in the User and Wikipedia talk namespaces. When an AFC submission is moved into mainspace, the {{AFC submission}} template should be removed from it. Sometimes the template is accidentally left on an article in mainspace. This is an error, and the report I mentioned helps highlight such errors. Adding {{polluted category}} stops this category showing up in the report, making it less likely that someone will spot the error.

Thanks for the explanation, and sorry for the problem. I've been focusing on fixing the user pages, and have to remember that sometimes the correct fix is on the article pages. GoingBatty (talk) 20:36, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

I was really confused about how pages are added to this category. The answer is: Template:AFC submission invokes Module:AFC submission catcheck to check if there are categories, and if there are, it adds this category to the page. --DannyS712 (talk) 23:32, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
