The 2028 Northern Territory general election will be held on 26 August 2028 to elect all 25 members of the Legislative Assembly in the unicameral Northern Territory Parliament.[1] Members will be elected through full preferential instant-runoff voting in single-member electorates. The election will be conducted by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC).
Background
editThis will be the second election for the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly where both major political parties are led by women, and the fourth in any Australian state or territory, after the 1995 ACT election, 2020 Queensland election and 2024 Northern Territory election.
Previous election
editAt the 2024 election, the Labor government led by Chief Minister Eva Lawler was defeated by Lia Finocchiaro's Country Liberal Party, who won 17 of the 25 seats in the parliament. Labor was reduced to 4 seats, whilst the NT Greens won their first seat and a further 3 seats were won by independents.
Redistribution
editA redistribution will take place during the term of the parliament.[2]
